The world is changing as fast as it spins: people are doing more and more: they are working longer hours, visiting more countries, and filling their lives with more activities. However, in order to do all of these things, energy is needed to fuel everything from a person’s car to planes. One of the worries is that the world will run out of traditional oil supplies in as little as 50 years. Thus, the need for alternative forms of energy is becoming more and more apparent. Many scientists who have studied the issue believe they have found a viable alternative to energy: algae oil. The following includes some basic information about this proposed energy source.
Researchers believe that oil extraction from algae will result in a biofuel that could one day power everything from cars to planes to trucks and jets. This is a great thing because algae is much easier to find and safer to extract than the oil we currently drill for. The only risk scientists see is a shift in ecosystems. However, with proper monitoring, these risks would be slim or even non-existent. Thus, the world would no longer have to worry about the depletion of oil reserves. Algae can be found in just about any mass of water: whether it’s a pool, a lake, or even the ocean. The sheer amount of the plant is something that makes it incredibly desirable.

Thus, because algae is so easy to find, folks believe that the biofuel will make energy cheaper. This will relieve a lot of pressure on individuals who need to power their car or want to travel but may struggle with current prices. This means that folks will not have to worry about how to heat their homes or having to choose between groceries and gas money.

Currently, scientists and researchers claim that algae oil will be ready for use in as little as 15 years. Until then, scientists need to learn as much about oil extraction from algae as possible. Additionally, scientists are identifying each kind of algae species – there are thousands upon thousands – and experimenting with nutrients and their affect on different species. Adding nutrients to certain species can increase the potency or effect of the oil and make the energy that much more effective.

In a world where traditional energy sources are drying up, it makes sense to look for biofuel alternatives. Algae is around us all of the time: if we can use this plant to fuel our cars and our lives, then we could just end up saving ourselves a lot of money and grief.
